On the Water: Rowing the K2
As a row boat the K2 will take 3 adults with ease and comfort. We suspect that with the buoyancy fitted externally, thereby providing additional positive buoyancy, the payload will be somewhat increased together with stability, particularly when getting in and out of the boat. K2 is very responsive under oars with directional ability enhanced by the built in skeg. On the Water: Motoring the K2We have tested the K2 with a 2.3 h.p. 4 stroke outboard and believe this will deliver sufficient power in most situations. However the boat has been rated to take up to a 4h.p. outboard, providing the engine weight does not exceed 20kg. The fibreglass aft transom has a wooden insert to take the pressure of the outboard clamps, although we strongly advise protecting the gel coat with a piece of thin ply or neoprene on either side. The K2 will also suit an electric outboard motor as the battery can be secured with a strap to one side of the centre board casing. The boat balances well and the side seats enable a single person to sit further forward (providing they have a reasonable length tiller to their outboard). Links |
